On September 21, 2024, Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) proudly joined forces with the African Youth Fellowship and other partners to celebrate the International Day of Peace in Monrovia.

Over 500 young Liberians braved the rain for the Run4Peace program, commemorating 21 years of peace in Liberia and highlighting the critical role peace plays in fostering economic growth and national development.

Themed “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” the event began at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town and concluded at the Invincible Sports Park, symbolizing the enduring commitment of Liberia’s youth to peace and progress.

Speaking during the program, Amb. Sylvester Choloplay, Founder of REYA and renowned journalist, stressed that peace is more than the absence of conflict — it is the foundation for economic growth and national unity.

“Over two decades of peace have paved the way for significant development in Liberia, and it is our responsibility, especially as youth, to safeguard that legacy,” Choloplay said.

REYA’s Vice President, James A. Yekeh, echoed these sentiments, urging young people to take ownership of Liberia’s future by engaging in development-driven activities that strengthen unity.

The celebration also featured remarks from leaders of partner organizations, including the African Youth Fellowship, Accountability Lab Liberia, and Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa.

The Run4Peace concluded with winners announced for both male and female categories, with Festus M. Boaywe and Korpo Sheriff taking first place in their respective divisions.

At REYA, peace is one of our core values — and we remain committed to mobilizing Liberia’s youth to protect and build on the hard-earned peace that underpins our nation’s progress.

No to Violence. Yes to Peace. Yes to Progress.
