Today, as Liberia marks the 68th anniversary of Armed Forces Day, the Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) proudly joins the nation in honoring the sacrifices, resilience, and commitment of the men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
This day, officially established in 1957 by an Act of the National Legislature, serves as a powerful reminder of the AFL’s role in maintaining peace, security, and national unity.
At REYA, peace remains a fundamental pillar of our work, and we recognize the crucial role of the AFL plays in safeguarding the stability of our nation. From its origins as the Liberia Frontier Force (LFF) in 1908, the AFL has undergone significant transformations, overcoming historical challenges to emerge as a force committed to democratic values, human rights, and national service. The restructuring of the military following the Liberian Civil War stands as a testament to Liberia’s dedication to reconciliation, reform, and a future grounded in peaceful co-existence.
As we celebrate this historic day, REYA encourages every young Liberian to embrace peace, national unity, and the spirit of patriotism. The Armed Forces are not just a symbol of military strength, but also a pillar of nation-building, humanitarian service, and global peacekeeping. Their commitment to protecting Liberia’s sovereignty should inspire all of us to work toward a society where dialogue replaces conflict, and progress triumphs over division.
Today, we stand in solidarity with the brave men and women in uniform, past and present, who have dedicated their lives to ensuring Liberia remains a sovereign and peaceful nation. Let this occasion strengthen our resolve to promote peace, security, and national development for a brighter Liberia.
REYA urges all Liberians to commemorate this day with deep reflection, respect, and renewed dedication to unity and progress. May the sacrifices of our military heroes continue to inspire us toward a peaceful and prosperous future.
Stay safe and enjoy the love of the peace we celebrate in this nation.
Liberia first!
Liberia last!
