Scholarship and Financial Aid for Disadvantaged Students

Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) provided scholarships and financial aid to 10 underprivileged students in Montserrado County at the start of the 2021 school year, with support from donors like Generation Impact and Bineyam Nani Tumbo. The scholarships, awarded to students from four local schools, aim to complement the government’s education efforts. REYA’s founder, Sylvester Choloplay, stressed the importance of collective action to improve Liberia’s education system. The initiative, REYA’s first project, highlights its commitment to advancing education and supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Year-End Academic Quizzing and Christmas Gift Program

On December 21, 2023, Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) held a one-day academic quizzing and Christmas gift program at the Excellent Learning Foundation Academy in Monrovia, bringing together 100 students from grades 6 to 9. The event featured questions on Language Arts, Liberian Civics, Vocabulary, and Christmas, with 24 students winning Christmas gift packages. Seventh grader Hellen Victor also earned 1,000 Liberian Dollars for answering the most questions correctly. The program, valued at 8,650 Liberian Dollars, was attended by REYA’s leadership and school administrators. REYA plans to expand similar initiatives to more schools in 2024 to encourage academic excellence and student engagement.

21 Years of Peace Celebration and Youth Run4Peace Program

On September 21, 2024, Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) joined the African Youth Fellowship (AYF) in hosting the Run4Peace event, celebrating 21 years of peace in Liberia. Over 500 young participants ran from the Ministerial Complex to the Invincible Sports Park in Monrovia, promoting peace as essential for Liberia’s growth. Key speakers, including AYF’s Moses Buwee and REYA’s CEO Amb. Sylvester C. Choloplay, emphasized the importance of peace for national development and youth involvement in driving change. The event concluded with awards for the top runners, Festus M. Boaywe and Korpo Sheriff. The program highlighted youth’s pivotal role in sustaining peace and advancing Liberia’s future.

REYA Soap Production Initiative

Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) launched a Soap Production Project to ensure the sustainability of its programs while empowering Liberia’s youth. Building on the success of its 2021 scholarship initiative, this project aims to generate funds for REYA’s educational and social programs while providing valuable skills in entrepreneurship and manufacturing to young Liberians. Supported by generous partners, including Bineyam Nani Tumbo’s GoFundMe campaign, the project will create job opportunities, foster economic growth, and help REYA continue its mission of improving education, leadership, and community development for underprivileged youth in Liberia.

Youth Leadership Program

Rescue Youth Alliance (REYA) successfully held its first two-day youth leadership program, featuring a diverse lineup of impactful speakers and engaging discussions. The program aimed to empower young Liberians with leadership skills and insights into various social and development issues.

Key speakers included Mr. Flomo Mau F. Maiwo, who addressed challenges in Liberia’s educational system, Ms. Rosetta Fardolo, who discussed gender equality and democracy, and Mr. Joseph M.D. Johnson, who highlighted the importance of volunteering and goal-setting. Other notable speakers included Mr. Varfee Holmes, who emphasized investing in youth for future resilience, Ms. Faith Brunilda Blapooh, who tackled climate change in Liberia, and Mr. Jarius Andrew Greaves, who focused on the roles and qualities of effective leaders. The program was a resounding success, sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring participants to become leaders in their communities.
